Georgina Wrixon, from Wimborne, Dorset, took part in an unforgettable golfing experience at St Andrews, after winning a prize place on the Allianz Golf Camp.
Allianz welcomed 18 young golfers from eleven countries to St Andrews Links, Scotland, for the third annual Allianz Golf Camp from 22-25 August, 2015.
Highlights of the trip included four days of professional coaching at the St Andrews Links Golf Academy and mentoring with 2014 European Ryder Cup Captain, Paul McGinley. European Tour players Moritz Lampert and his sister Karolin also coached the young sports enthusiasts.
UK winner Georgina, aged 16, had the opportunity to play on the world’s oldest golf course and was joined at the renowned St Andrews Links Golf Academy by her mother, Sarah Maunder Wrixon, who works for local insurance broker, Summers & Co. Insurance Brokers.
To win the competition, Georgina described to Allianz the most memorable golf course she had played and why she liked it.
Georgina commented: ““It’s been such an exciting weekend – we’ve both been really looking forward to it. I feel so lucky to have been chosen to take part in such a fantastic trip! The opportunity to play the Old Course and meet Paul McGinley has made this a really unforgettable experience for us.”
Paul McGinley said: “I thoroughly enjoy being involved with these young golfers and getting the opportunity to share my knowledge. Golf is a life long journey that has many ups and downs and ultimately this makes you stronger and a better player. The passion and enthusiasm of these boys and girls is truly contagious.”
Christian Deuringer, head of global brand management, Allianz SE said: “The Allianz Golf Camp has a very special place within the youth programs of our global sponsoring portfolio. To play at iconic St Andrews and meet their role model is an unforgettable experience for these young talents. There is a wonderful team spirit at the camp which is all about giving the participants a little extra confidence that they are capable to reach their highest goals.”
At St Andrews Links Golf Academy the participants are taught golfing skills while having access to the latest technology, for example in swing analysis. The camp is also an overall inspiring experience that will help them grow, on-and-off the course.
The Chair of the Wimborne BID, which represents the local businesses in Wimborne, said, “Summers & Co Insurance Brokers have helped to put Wimborne on the map in the world of golf. Georgina Wrixon the third generation in family firm, was given the unforgettable golfing experience at St Andrews, when she beat of strong competition and won a prize place at the Allianz Golf Camp.”
